Patient 11

This 50 year-old young woman found a mass in her left breast. A mammogram 2 years earlier was normal and at that time she had breast augmentation. The mass was confirmed to be invasive ductal carcinoma. In performing her left mastectomy, the prior implant was removed and an expander was placed. Cigarette smoking contributed to initial healing delays but one year later she completed her reconstruction with placement of a high profile 600cc silicone gel implant in the left breast. For symmetry, a right breast lift and augmentation was performed replacing her prior implant with a midrange 339cc silicone gel implant.
