What Is Vaginal Rejuvenation?
Childbirth, menopause, chemotherapy, hysterectomy, the natural process of aging, and a combination of various other factors, can all contribute to changes in vaginal tissue over time. Some of the most common symptoms women experience include vaginal dryness, tissue laxity, decreased sexual sensation, and even urinary stress incontinence (USI). Vaginal rejuvenation is a term used to describe surgical and non-surgical treatments designed to help resolve these concerns and improve vaginal wellness.
At our practice, Virginia plastic surgeon Behzad Parva, MD offers an innovative, non-surgical procedure called diVa™ Laser Vaginal Therapy to treat intimate challenges and help revitalize vaginal function with little to no downtime. What Is diVa™ Laser Vaginal Therapy?
diVa™ Laser Vaginal Therapy is a revolutionary treatment utilized to restore health and vitality to vaginal soft tissue without surgery. Equipped with High Precision Automation (HPA) and Hybrid Fractional Laser (HFL) Technology, this FDA-cleared vaginal rejuvenation technique delivers controlled fractionated laser energy into tissue along the entire vaginal canal and is highly customizable based on each individual’s concerns, age, and desired outcome. The procedure can generally be completed in approximately five minutes or less, and there is minimal to no downtime required.
What Concerns Can diVa™ Vaginal Rejuvenation Treat?
diVa™ is an affordable, non-hormonal treatment, ideal for patients that are experiencing symptoms such as vaginal dryness, irritation, and laxity, as well as painful intercourse and urinary incontinence. These symptoms have left women frustrated, with limited solutions. Vaginal rejuvenation with diVa™ Laser Therapy can be custom-tailored to treat the following concerns:
- Tissue laxity
- Reduced sexual sensation
- Low to moderate urinary incontinence
How Is diVa™ Laser Vaginal Therapy Performed?
The ergonomic design of the diVa™ device helps to maximize patient comfort and ease of use. To begin the procedure, the diVa™ handpiece is fitted with a single-use Strengthened Quartz Dilator (SQD) tip and inserted carefully into the vaginal canal. Once in position, the diVa™ device rotates throughout the treatment area as it gently ablates and coagulates (shrinks with heat) internal vaginal tissue via Hybrid Fractional Laser Technology. This rotation is controlled by diVa™’s unique High Precision Automation system, which eliminates the need for manual positioning of the handpiece while promoting optimal treatment uniformity, predictability, efficiency, and safety. Each laser pulse is delivered through a new section of the SQD tip, allowing for the highest degree of laser efficacy during the procedure.
There is virtually no pain associated with diVa™, though some minor pressure against the vaginal wall and/or sensitivity near the vaginal opening may be experienced. On average, treatment usually takes about three to five minutes, and a total of three sessions spaced approximately one month apart—followed by one yearly treatment—is often recommended to achieve and maintain ideal results.
What Is Recovery from diVa™ Vaginal Rejuvenation?
Following vaginal rejuvenation with diVa™, patients are generally able to resume normal daily activities right away, but sexual intimacy should be avoided for at least 48 hours to allow for proper healing. The majority of women who undergo the diVa™ procedure experience little to no spotting, discharge, or discomfort—enabling them to receive treatment with minimal disruption to their everyday lives.
