Laser resurfacing is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment we perform at Parva Plastic Surgery in Loudoun County, Virginia to remove selective skin layers in order to reveal bright, smooth and a more youthful looking skin. The procedure is effective for wrinkles around the mouth (smoker’s lines), the eyes, and forehead.  Others that may benefit from laser resurfacing are those individuals suffering from acne scars or chicken pox scarring. Without intervention these imperfections may continue to grow larger and deeper.  Laser resurfacing smoothes out the imperfections and leaves a tighter, healthier skin behind.

What is a Laser Resurfacing?

Laser Resurfacing is a deep exfoliation treatment that targets and tightens tough lines and grooves on our skin. For years, Laser Resurfacing has been used to treat difficult imperfections on mature skin.  At Parva Plastic Surgery in Northern, VA, Laser Resurfacing is performed with the Sciton Laser, an erbium laser that is both safe and highly effective.

How does Laser Resurfacing work?

Laser Resurfacing is performed with precise settings that will penetrate and tighten deeper tissue levels, significantly reducing noticeable lines and creases. Laser Resurfacing is recommended to treat skin that is mature and severely damaged.  Laser Micropeel is recommended for mild to moderate lines. A evaluation will determine the best course of action for your specific needs.

What should I expect during a Laser Resurfacing?

Before your Laser Resurfacing treatment at Parva Plastic Surgery in Virginia, a topical numbing agent is applied to the treatment area for 30 minutes. In some cases, a local numbing agent will be used to block treatment areas to assure additional comfort.  As the treatment takes place, you may feel bursts of heat, followed by a sunburn sensation. Immediately after your treatment, cool compresses and soothing ointment are applied to the face for additional comfort. Laser Resurfacing treatments are completed within 20-30 minutes and are commonly combined with Laser Micropeel treatments.

What should I expect after a Laser Resurfacing?

Laser Resurfacing is best used to improve moderate to severe skin irregularities. Healing time varies between individuals and depends on the depth of the lines being treated. On average, healing may take between seven to ten days before applying make-up to the treated area. After Laser Resurfacing you will look younger, with radiant skin that is smooth to the touch.
