Are Uneven Breasts Normal?

Having breasts with slight discrepancies is perfectly normal. In fact, most women experience some degree of size or shape difference between their breasts, but it is often small enough to not be noticeable. Additionally, chest wall asymmetries can also impact breast shape and appearance. While some women may be born with uneven breasts, others can develop the cosmetic concern over time due to the natural aging process, pregnancy and breastfeeding, as well as weight changes. When breast asymmetry is significant, this can make it difficult to find properly fitting bras and other clothing, and it can cause individuals to feel self-conscious about their chest appearance.

To address the concern of uneven breasts, different procedures may be recommended alone or in conjunction with each other. Our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Behzad Parva, evaluates each individual to determine the most appropriate surgical technique that can help them achieve a more balanced aesthetic. Breast augmentation is often a beneficial procedure for helping correct significant asymmetry, as implants can be used to correct underdevelopment in one breast while producing improved proportions. Breast lift and/or breast reduction surgery may be advised as alternatives to breast augmentation, for those wanting to maintain or reduce their breast size while achieving a more lifted and symmetrical appearance.
